We are absolutely delighted to have received some National Lottery Community Funding.

Many thanks to the players of the National Lottery.

This funding will enable The Calder Conservation Group CIC to further engage communities with some exciting things to look forward to in the very near future.

We Won! – BBC Make a Difference Awards 2025 (Green Award)

On Saturday 13th September 2025, members of the Calder Conservation Group CIC were invited to attend the BBC Make a Difference Awards after being named finalists in the prestigious Green Award category.

The award was judged by the much-loved gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh, and we were completely stunned when our name was announced as the winners.

This recognition means so much to us. In less than a year, our group has brought people together to restore and regenerate the Calder Catchment, tackle pollution, clear invasive species, and encourage communities to reconnect with their local river and green spaces.

We are absolutely ecstatic to receive this award, but it is not just for us — it belongs to every single volunteer, supporter, and community member who has joined us along the way. Without your time, passion, and encouragement, none of this would have been possible.

Winning the Green Award has strengthened our determination to keep pushing forward with our projects — from river clean-ups and wellbeing walks to educational days that inspire the next generation to care for our natural environment.

Thank you to the BBC, the judges, and everyone who continues to support our mission. Together, we are making a difference for the River Calder and beyond.

We Won! – BBC Make a Difference Awards 2025 (Green Award)

Collaborating with The Friends of Wellhome, this May, we blended Zombie Awareness Month (yes, it's really a thing!), with litter awareness and horror film genre.

A campaign following on from The Great British Spring Clean and celebrating the upcoming release of '28 Years Later' this June (sequel to the film series 28 days later and 28 weeks later, by director Danny Boyle).

Litter is an ongoing challenge and Keep Britain Tidy's recent report 'A rubbish reality' indicates the situation is getting worse, with over 90% of places surveyed across England blighted by litter.

Another reality... Litter is dropped by people!

We often find litter dating back decade's, scarily in tact with little to no signs of deterioration... remember our 80's crisp packet find or our 90's Mcdonalds styrofoam McChicken sandwich box?

With zombies and litter decomposition both being about rot and decay, the metaphor is scarily perfect. We have therefore adopted the tagline:

'Time doesn't rot everything'

 We’re in the news!

Huge thanks to the Dewsbury Reporter for shining a light on the work we’re doing at The Calder Conservation Group CIC to protect and restore the River Calder!

From tackling pollution and improving habitats to reconnecting people with nature, our mission is to make a lasting impact on this vital waterway. This article highlights our journey so far and the exciting plans we have for the future—including our Brighouse Beach clean-up on Sunday, February 2nd!

Take a moment to read the article and learn more about the challenges facing our river and how you can get involved.

Together, we can create a healthier, thriving environment for wildlife and our local communities.

We've reached Parliament

Astounded when we received a personalised letter from Kim Leadbetter on a Houses of Parliament letterhead. Kim wanted to congratulate us for our efforts in Conservation and community engagement.

There will be more collaboration with Kim in the future with lots of things going on in the background.
